One challenge, three paths

Cult of Codex is built around a simple idea: the same practical work challenge can be solved at more than one level.

Some people need a clear manual method. Some want AI to help design a better workflow. Some are ready for supervised systems that keep work moving in the background.

The point is not to push everyone to the most advanced answer. The point is to choose the path that fits your tools, permissions, time, confidence, and AI comfort.

Order I - Manual

Manual paths are clear no-AI routes. They might be checklists, templates, spreadsheet steps, scripts, or repeatable instructions that make the work easier without asking you to rely on AI.

Use this path when you need control, speed, simplicity, or something that works inside strict tools and permissions.

A Manual solution should be easy to understand, easy to repeat, and useful even if you never open an AI tool.

Order II - Assisted

Assisted paths use AI to help create, adapt, or set up the answer. AI might help write the specification, shape the rules, generate a script, clean up a template, or design the workflow.

The important part is that the finished workflow does not need constant AI involvement every time it runs. AI helps you build the bridge, but you can usually cross it without rebuilding it.

Use this path when the challenge repeats often enough to justify setup time, or when a little AI help can turn a messy process into something reusable.

Order III - Agentic

Agentic paths make AI part of the ongoing system. The model may check information, run a process, draft outputs, monitor changes, or prepare the next action while a human stays in charge.

This path needs stronger rules: clear permissions, safe tools, human approval gates, and a way to understand what happened after each run.

Use this path when the work is frequent, messy, and valuable enough for a supervised system to keep moving in parallel with you.

How to choose

Start with the simplest path that genuinely solves the challenge. Manual is not lesser. Assisted is not a compromise. Agentic is not automatically better.

A good Ritual makes the trade-offs visible so you can choose the right level of help for where you are now.
